JOLIET — A 28-year-old Joliet man is no longer in the Will County Jail following last week's arrest by the Joliet police force in connection with gun crimes.

Jail logs indicate that Julian Stamps was kept in detention from March 12 to 14. He has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 5:52 p.m. March 12, officers pulled over a Buick Lucerne near Plainfield Road and Caton Farm Road for tinted windows. Stamps was the driver, and he was unable to provide valid insurance for the vehicle, police said. Authorities determined the vehicle would be towed.

During a search of the vehicle, English said officers recovered a loaded handgun as well as a handgun magazine loaded with additional ammunition.

Stamps comes from the 400 block of Francis Street, on Joliet's older east side.

Stamps was placed into custody and also given traffic citations for having tinted windows and operating an uninsured vehicle.
